This is a compilation of activities, strategies and methods of differentiation to include EAL students in mainstream English.

35 slides, with hints, activities and strategies for supporting EAL students. Also included are activities for staff training. Please note I have included some strategy mats that I've uploaded previously.

There are twelve slides, each with a quote or an inspirational list, then exercises. I have prepared this for advanced young EAL learners, but it will suit mainstream years 6 and 7.

This is a 20 slide powerpoint about Veganuary. There are match-ups, gap fills, true or false activities, correct the spellings, mini RCs, research tasks (design a menu for…) and hopefully, food for thought. I have designed this for advanced EAL learners, but it will make a good form time activity. My thanks to Veganuary and Rich of vegansidekick for permission to use their visuals.

I have simplified the language of the NASSEA steps, so that students can be involved in their assessments and understand where they are and what their targets are.

This is designed for EAL learners, but is useful as a prompt for debate in the mainstream classroom. The arguments and counter arguments are presented as exercises: match-up, replace the words and re-arrange the words. There is also a powerful image to describe - my thanks to Rich the vegansidekick for permission to use it. A full key is included.

It’s a worksheet about the recent school strike. It is designed for EAL learners but may be of wider use, maybe in Citizenship or tutor period. I’m sure we don’t want them all downing pens, but knowledge is power!

This is a powerpoint of 52 slides. I uploaded it previously to test the waters as I was going to charge for it. From 23 views, it got 21 downloads! I was pleased. Since then, I have done nothing to make it sale-worthy, like checking image derivation and one or 2 layouts that are not really mine. However, I have faffed about with fancy borders and stuff to make it look presentable. Time to let this go live! So - there are youtube clips with exercises, match-ups, comprehensions, picture description, making inferences, games… All sorts! I hope you can use it and I hope to get a few reviews:-)

This is an EAL newsletter for staff that is fully editable. I have included boxes for a 'student of the month&' feature and an interview with a member of staff. This was very welI received at my school and we had a competition to choose a name for the newsletter. We are undecided between The ReadEMA&'; and 'The Chitchat&'. I will be uploading issue 2 very soon!

This is a writing mat for pupils - they have to follow the instructions to help them with their writing. This is a form to help self-assessment for EAL pupils.

These are the NASSEA step levels in language that your students can access.

Activities around bullying, including a warmer, 'scenario' cards for students to comment on or act out; comment cards for pair work and role play, with pyramid of importance activity; match-up activity on types of bullying and on what makes a bully; suggestions for dealing with bullying tick lists and a case history with activities. The activities are suitable for pair and group work. Before approaching each of these activities, you can ask students to come up with their own ideas. I did this with year 7, on a 'conflict resolution' day.

I have made this for my year 7 tutor group. Hopefully, this will produce some good resolutions which can be measured throughout next year.

This is a ppt of 40 slides, exploring the reasons why there are so many words in English. It takes a brief look at the historical reasons, but concentrates on language awareness exercises. There are gap fill, true or false and rearrange the letters exercises, as well as picture description and comprehension questions. Finally, the students are invited to create some new words. This is intended for EAL, but most slides are suitable for native speakers.
